Judith A. (Vollenhals) Cullen, 71, Alexandria, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday November 28, 2012 at her home.

She was born February 22, 1941 in Alexandria, IN.
Judy was the daughter of Martin "Junior" and Cora (Hall) Vollenhals.

Judy grew up in Alexandria where she was active with the Girl Scouts and was always very proud of being awarded their highest rank "The Curve Bar" in 1956. She was a member of the Alexandria First Baptist Church. She attended and graduated Alexandria High in 1959, where she participated in many activities. She attended Porter College in Indianapolis and received a diploma in business. She married her high school sweetheart, Gary C. Cullen, in 1960. They had two daughters Joi Lynne and Julianna
Through her husband's work they lived in several locations in Indiana, Allen Park, MI, and Decatur, IL. While living in Allen Park, Judy worked as a Tour Guide & Special Events Coordinator for 13 years at The Henry Ford Museum & Greenfield Village in Dearborn. Judy loved working with all the guests from all over the world and sharing her love of history.
After years of being "Lakers", Judy and Gary built their retirement home at Lake Tippecanoe which Judy had designed. Everyone who came to visit the Cullen Cottage was always treated like family and shown a fun time. They especially enjoyed visits from their nephew Chad C. Blake and teaching their granddaughters, Samantha & Hannah Sheridan, the joys of lake living and the importance of patriotism during the July 4th celebrations. When Gary became terminally ill Judy lovingly cared for her husband until his death in 1998.
Following her husband's death she returned to Alexandria, "Small Town USA", to be closer to her sister, Pamela S. Blake. She quickly turned her energy and talents towards helping her community. Becoming a member of the Alexandria Historical Society, Alexandria Library Board, Timberlake Estates Condo Board, and the Alexandria Redevelopment Commission. Her efforts were acknowledged this past year when she was awarded the Samaritan Heart Award. Judy loved reading, current events/news, politics, history and dancing. She loved her hometown and all its charm.

Judy is survived by her daughters Joi Lynne (Daniel) Walker of New Palestine, and Julianna (Bruce) Sheridan of Allen Park, MI; two adored granddaughters Samantha Rae Sheridan of Myrtle Beach, SC and Hannah Kristen Sheridan of Allen Park, MI; her sister & friend Pamela Sue (Vollenhals) Blake of Alexandria; a cherished nephew and his family, Chad C. (Jennifer) Blake and their children Cooper and Julia of Sun City, AZ. Her "Dad" Charles C. (Rosalie) Riley of Sulphur Springs, IN and many cherished cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gary C. Cullen, her parents Martin "Junior" Vollenhals, and Cora Alice (Hall) Riley, her paternal grandparents Zephal and Martin Vollenhals.

She was a loving and generous grandmother, mother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Her sense of humor and wit, her affectionate manner, and devotion to family and friends, and her willingness to dance at any given moment will be full heartedly missed. We, her loved ones, are consoled by the knowing that she is reunited with her beloved husband Gary in heaven.
