Edgar Abernathy, Sr. was born September 16, 1927 to the late Elverse and Melissia (Morris) Abernathy.
He confessed hope in Christ at an early age and joined First Baptist Church, Tuscumbia, Alabama. He was a member of the Board of Deacons and Sunday Evening Circle.
He departed this life Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at Helen Keller Hospital, Tuscumbia, Alabama.
Before finishing high school, he joined the United States Navy and served with distinction until he was honorably discharged in 1943. He received his elementary and secondary education from Trenholm High School.
He retired from TVA after many years of service. He also was a member of Big Spring Masonic Lodge #29. He served as secretary for over 25 years.
Precious memories are cherished by a devoted wife: Mrs. Betty Mason Abernathy, Tuscumbia, Alabama; three daughters: Shirley Diane Abernathy, Birmingham, AL, Felicia Abernathy Ramadan (Anthony), Plainfield, IL and Dr. Angela Patrice Abernathy, New York, NY; two sons: Larry Abernathy (Eulasteen), Harvest, AL and Edgar Abernathy, Jr. (Wanda), Tuscumbia, AL; one sister: Edna Abernathy Garrett, (Pope deceased) Clarksville, TN; three brothers: Walter Abernathy (Tina), Bennie Abernathy (Carolyn) and Morris Abernathy all of Tuscumbia, AL; three sisters-in-law: Earla Sue Lockhart, Huntsville, AL; Merline Rice (Robert), Aliceville, AL and Patrica Martin, Columbia, TN; three brothers-in-law: Thurman Lockhart (Bobbie), Cleveland, OH, James Mason, Tuscumbia, AL and JC Whatley, Alexander City, AL; ten grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and the First Baptist Church Family.
