Louise Norris (Corbin) Cole, who was born January 24, 1907 passed away, March 8, 2002 after an extended illness. She was born near Lebanon, Tennessee, the daughter of John William Norris and Laura Allen Norris, and the granddaughter of Capt. A. D. Norris who retrieved the Confederate Flag after Picketts Charge.

Survivors include her husband George M. Cole, son Charles K. Corbin, two stepdaughters, three grandsons, and four great grandchildren.

She attended Middle Tennessee State College, where she met and married her first husband Charles Corbin, a tri-sport athlete who later became the head of the Railroad Retirement Board in Jacksonville. After the early death of her first husband, she continued her thirty-three year teaching career at Robert E. Lee High School. In 1960 she met fellow teacher George M. Cole, whom she fell in love with and married. In 1979 she was awarded the Vanderbilt University Peabody Award for being an outstanding teacher.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p. m. Tuesday, March 12th at Hardage-Giddens Mandarin Chapel, 11801 San Jose Blvd. The graveside service will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd. on Wednesday, March 13th at 11 a. m. with Rev. Neil Anderson and Rev. Donald Mackay officiating.
