Gill Services Set Friday

Auto Trade Leader Succumbs at Home

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday for William Albert Gill, 69, who died Tuesday at his home at 5439 S.W. Shattuck road after 18 years’ heart illness.

A Portland resident since 1892, he was born in Cleveland. He worked on the first automobile that came to Portland, and in 1905 designed and built a gasoline stage holding 16 passengers for a run from Bend to Shaniko. After years in the automotive industry he organized Cook & Gill company in 1912. Later he opened Gill Automotive Service company at 10th and Hoyt streets, afterward moving to 5th and Davis streets. He retired from business in 1933.

He was a member of Columbia Lodge No. 114, AF & AM; Shrine and Maccabees. He had been a member of Rotary, chamber of commerce, Wauna Lake and Meadow Lake Fishing clubs. He was past president of Portland Automotive Trades.

He is survived by the widow, Lena H.; three sisters, Mrs. Stella Ryckman of Portland, Mrs. Ethel Cooper and Mrs. Mary Wilson of Camas, Wash., and a brother, Edd E. Gill of Hillsboro.

Friday services at the Colonial Mortuary will be followed by vault interment at Riverview cemetery. Services will be under auspices of Columbia lodge No. 114, AF & AM.
