Bunyan Monroe Webb, an internationally known guitarist of San Francisco, CA, and formerly of Memphis, died Saturday , October 14 while scuba diving at a Santa Rosa, CA beach. He was 41.

Mrs. Bunyan Webb of Memphis said her son went scuba diving with a group of other people when he apparently had a heart attack. She said the group was under water when Mr. Webb gave the signal to surface, but he never made it.

Mr. Webb performed at Carnegie Hall in 1962 and also before President and Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson. He also performed with leading symphonies in the United States, Europe, South America and Japan. He moved to San Francisco three years ago, where he had been giving private guitar lessons.

A graduate of Southwestern, he went to Spain after his graduation and studied guitar. He later studied in France and England with famous European guitarists.

Mr. Webb was a member of the faculty at Inter-American University in Puerto Rico, the University of North Carolina and Blair Academy in Nashville, TN.

He was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church and an Army veteran.

He also leaves a daughter, Nadia Elizabeth Webb of Mill Valley, CA; his father Dr. Bunyan Webb of Memphis, and a brother, Dr. James Thurmond Webb of Dayton, OH.
