Merrill K. "Ras" Reese, 76, manager of Mister Penguin Tuxedo at the Mall of Abilene for 12 years, died Tuesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Broadview Baptist Church with the Rev. David Cason officiating. Burial will be in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mr. Reese was born in Tye and lived in Abilene most of his life. He graduated from Abilene High School and attended McMurry University. He married Helen Fannin in 1940 in Baird. He served with the U.S. Army in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War II and received a Purple Heart and Victory Medal. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; four daughters, Sandy Phelps, Nancy Roberson, Jackie Abel and Margie Lind, all of Abilene; one brother, Jack Reese of Abilene; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three nieces.
Memorials may be sent to American Lung Association of Texas, P.O. Box 26460, Austin 78764; or American Heart Association, 149 N. Willis, Abilene 79603.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.
