Ernest D. Cotton, age 70, went home to be with his Lord Saturday, August 23, 2014. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle. Born the 22nd day of December 1943 in Mobile, AL. Ernie and his family moved Pensacola when he was the age of two. Ernie faithfully served over twenty years with the United States Air Force before his retirement. His assignments took him to Guam, Alaska, North Thailand, and throughout the United States. He received numerous awards for his Service. Upon his retirement from the USAF he continued to serve his country as a supervisor at Pensacola Naval Air Station for over twelve years until his health forced his medical retirement. He was a "Didler" who loved to buy and sell things. He loved being with his grandchildren. Ernie was a master Mason and faithful member of Pinecastle Lodge #368 in Orlando, FL. He was of the Baptist Faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.D. Cotton and Ada Brown Cotton and a brother, Jack D. Cotton.
Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Mary E. Cotton; his sons, Eddie E. Cotton and wife Lisa of Pensacola, FL and Randall D. Cotton and wife Lindsey of Mobile, AL; grandsons, Tyler, Zachary and Jadin; granddaughters, Holly and Naomi; great grandchildren, Michael and Chloe; his brothers, Franklin Cotton and Allen J. Cotton of Pensacola, FL, Morris D. Cotton of LA and Charles Gary Cotton of Loganville, GA; his sisters, Barbara G. Aceto of Pensacola, FL and Virginia Hendry of Gretna, LA.
Funeral services will be Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 11 AM at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Gene Hudson and Rev. Doug Sanders officiating. Interment will follow in Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens with full military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, August 27, 2014 from 6 until 8 PM.
