Louis Joseph Botto, born on 13 November 1837 at Genoa, Italy, the son of John Botto and his first wife, Giacinta (Ferrea) Botto, died on 21 April 1899 at his residence on the corner of Washington and South Union streets in Natchez, Mississippi. His parents and a brother, Paul, preceded him in death. His wife, Frances Melanie "Fanny" (Quegles) Botto, whom he married on 13 November 1883 in Adams County, Mississippi, survived him. A sister, Kate (Botto) Hill Van Rensselaer, also survived him.


Mr. Botto and his family, including his parents and his late brother, Paul Botto, immigrated to the United States in 1847. The Bottos settled first at Vicksburg, Mississippi, but soon moved to Natchez. Mr. Botto was in business with his father from 1865 until 1875, when his father died at the ageo of fifty-nine. Afterwards he continued the family business on his own and was quite successful. Among his many business enterprises was the Natchez Compress Company. He also served as Vice-President of First Natchez Bank.


Services on Saturday, 22 April 1899, at St. Mary's Cathedral in Natchez, were followed by interment at the Natchez City Cemetery in the Botto family plot on Catholic Hill.
