John "Jack" Edwin SIM, son of George SIM and Edna OTWELL, was named after his grandfathers John SIM and Edwin OTWELL. His early years were spent in Hamburg NY where he attended Wanaka School. After his father's death in 1941, the family moved to Lackawanna NY. He had to quit school after the 8th grade to support the family. His first job was at the Buffalo Evening News.

In 1944, at age 17, Jack joined the Navy- the 137th Seabees. He often spoke about his travels to Japan. It was quite an experience for a young man to travel to the other side of the earth.

After the war, Jack met and married Vi BINIEWSKI. They were married over 40 years and had 5 children. They had farms in Cheektowaga NY and Colden NY. Later, they moved to Lackawanna NY. During their marriage, they traveled throughout the US and Canada. Jack worked for 40 years for the South Buffalo Railway and was an active member of the Legionaires and Hilltoppers Post in Lackawanna NY.

Jack enjoyed hunting (bow and rifle), fishing, camping, reading the newspaper and watching sports. His favorite meal was spaghetti and favorite snacks were black licorice, peanuts and Hersheys chocolate.
