Helen Joy Pewtress Ogden – Helen Joy Aardema Pewtress returned home to Heavenly Father on Thursday, March 18, 2010 from heart failure. She was born September 23, 1940 to Albertus Aardema and Eva Joy Morrell. She married Joseph Boyd Phillips in the Logan Temple. From this union came her three sons. They were later divorced. On November 21, 1969, she married Mark Ray Pewtress in Ogden, Utah. This holy union was later solemnized for time and all eternity in the Ogden LDS Temple. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Over the years, she had held many callings including teaching Primary, Sunday School, Relief Society, Young Women, and Cub Scout Den Mother. Her greatest calling in life and one she most thoroughly enjoyed was mother and grandmother. She filled those roles magnificently. Every child and grandchild knew that they were loved unconditionally by this great lady. She spent her entire adult life caring for her special needs son. She had a spot in her heart for all mentally and physically disabled children. Her compassionate ways extended beyond her immediate family as her home, food, and a bed were always available for others in need. Her generosity knew no bounds. Her hobbies included genealogy, history, and antique collecting. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Bradley Joseph Phillips; brothers Nicholas Aardema, Delbert Aardema, Dale Aardema, and Greg Clark; a sister, Judy Henderson of Tucson, AZ also passed away on Thursday. She is survived by her husband, Mark of Ogden; her sons David (Stephanie) Phillips and Glen (Sherice) Phillips of Clinton; brothers and sisters Jim (Stephanie) Henderson of West Haven, Arlin Henderson of Washington Terrace, Robert (Gail) Aardema of South Weber, Thea (Jim) Locke of Sonoita, AZ, Melody (Scott) Clark of Ogden, and Connie (Clark) Blaisdell of Pleasant Grove; and thirteen grandchildren.
