Salem – Garrett A. "Gary" Barnes, 29, passed away Saturday morning, Sept. 11, 2010 at Hospice House, Poland after a courageous battle with cancer.

Gary was born November 25, 1980 in Salem, a son of Russell K. and Diane L. Wise Barnes and had lived in the Columbiana area all of his life. He was a 1999 graduate of Columbiana High School and played at the center and outside linebacker positions for the 1997 Clipper football team that went to the state playoffs. He was a 2005 graduate of Youngstown State University where he received a bachelor's degree in Psychology. Gary was employed as a Quality Control Supervisor at Shin Etsu Silicones, Akron the past five years.

He was a member of Grace Church, Columbiana and played on the Wednesday Nite Golf League at Valley Golf Course.

Besides his parents, of Columbiana, Gary is survived by his wife, the former Jennifer L. Stokes, whom he married May 14, 2005; two sons, Quentin Barnes and Holden Barnes, both of the home; two brothers, Gregory (Diane M.) Barnes of Massillon and Geoffrey Barnes of New York City, NY; his maternal grandmother, Marjorie Wise of Columbiana; two nieces, Emily Barnes and Hanna Barnes; a nephew, Conner Barnes; his in-laws, Kimberly Cross of Columbiana and Elmer "Butch" Donnally of Leetonia; and two brother in laws, Dean Stokes and Brandon Cross, both of Columbiana.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at the Grace Church, Columbiana, with the Reverend Dr. Robert C. Joy officiating. Burial will follow in Columbiana Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana on Monday from 4-8 p.m. and at the church one half hour prior to the services on Tuesday.

The family would appreciate memorial contributions be directed to either Hospice of the Valley, 120 W. County Line Road, Columbiana, OH 44408 or the Gary Barnes Foundation, 119 N. Pearl St. Columbiana, OH 44408.
