Emaline's father was Redhead Tonwah Chinook and her mother was Temish Woman the Sea Quinalt.

Emaline was a guest at Fort Vancouver in the home of John MacGlophlin learning to live as a Christian woman when John Edmunds Pickernell, her future husband, met her. He was an employee of the Hudson Bay Company. They were married May 5, 1838 in French Prairie, Yamhill, Oregon.

They lived in Pacific County, Washington, where the Chinook River empties into Baker's Bay, about half-way between Chinook and Ilwaco.

Emaline and John were the parents of four children: John, Harriet, Julia and Marie.

John and Emaline are buried in the Pickernell Cemetery which is across from their family home.
