He Married Luella Katherine Weaver on January 24, 1954 in Minneapolis. They had seven children. DeVan was employed in landscape maintenance with the Crow Wing Highway Department. He liked to hunt, fish and garden. De Van ws a Scoutmaster for Troop 75 – Salvation Army, and enjoyed model railroads.
