Hannah N. Rogers was born on Jan.
13, 1893 in Hampton, Franklin County
to Jens and Julianna Anderson Nielsen.
In 1901, at eight years of age, she moved
with her family to a farm northeast of
Newell to be near other Danish Baptist
relatives and friends. Her family included
brothers Carl and Henry, sisters,
Carrie Olson, Mary Danielson, Julia
Larsen, Minnie Nielsen, Lily Morris and
Laura Nielsen, who died in infancy.
Mrs. Rogers was the last surviving member
of her family.

As a girl she attended a nearby
country school. One of her teachers was
John Rogers, who later became her husband.
They were married Nov. 22, 1911
in Newell and started farming soon after.
They lived on farms owned by
George Allee and Harrison Rogers
southeast of Newell. In 1917 they moved
to a farm east of Newell.
During Mrs. Rogers lifetime, she
assisted her husband in many of the
farm activities and with a seed corn
business. They were long-time members
of the Farm Bureau and helped
with many community activities. She
had been a member of the Newell United
Methodist Church since 1912 and had
participated in various church programs
including the United Women's projects.
Mrs. Rogers enjoyed gardening and
tending her many flowers as well as
playing cards. Her greatest joy was corresponding
with family and friends.

Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death
by her parents, Jens Soren and Julianna
Nielsen; her husband; two brothers and
six sisters; a son Dean Rogers; daughter-
in-law, Bernadine Madison Rogers;
son-in-law Owen Turrall; and grandson-
in-law, Jerry Maschino.

Mrs. Rogers is survived by two
daughters, Iris Turrall of Jupiter, Florida
and Zora and Glenn Baughman, Newell;
three sons, Richard and Edris Rogers
Tulsa, Oklahoma; Donald and Elsie
Rogers of Oxnard, California; John and
Ruth Rogers of Austin, Texas; and
daughter-in-law, Mildred Rogers of
Newell; 17 grandchildren, 38 great
grandchildren, and 16 great-great
grandchildren. She is also survived by
her sister-in-law Elaine (Glen) Rogers of
