Mrs. Willa White Owens was Ohio Women's Chess Champion and the first woman elected vice-president of the United States Chess Federation. She had learned to play from her first husband around 1937 and met her second husband at a chess tournament. She said they played to see who would wash the dishes and that her husband developed into a quite experienced dish-washer.
