Peyton Bland was born at St.Martin's Parish, Louisiana.
He was the son of Elizabeth Smith of Dolentown County, SC. Elizabeth is described as being 6ft. 2in. and large in stature with red hair.
She was knowledgable in medicine of the times. Peyton's Father was Peyton Bland, Sr.
Elizabeth,widowed, brought her son Peyton Bland,Jr., to Texas in 1833.
Peyton Bland,Jr., married Susannah Harmon on March 8, 1838. Susannah was 15 years old, being born on November 2, 1823, in St. Martin's Parish, Louisiana. Susannah was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Comstock Clark Harmon.
Peyton owned a general store, drove cattle from as far as Goliad to herd to New Orleans, freighted supplies from Galveston. He served in the Texas Army, was county Commissioner. During the CW he sold beef to the Confederate Army.
Peyton, like his mother, was large in stature.
Peyton died of pneumonia on August 19, 1873. He was 57.
Peyton was the father of 13 children.

The 13 children were:
1. Sarah Elizabeth Bland (1829-1921), who married George Michel Peveto
2. Emily Margaret Bland (1841-1902), who married Samuel Peveto "Emily"
3. Caroline Bland (1843-1900), who married Uriah Green Cooper
4. Nancy Jane Bland (1845-1933), who married Colan Peveto
5. Ursan Bland (1847-1865)
6. Jonathan S Bland (1848-1902), who married Texana Alderman
7. Silas Bland (1850-1934), who married Nora Linscomb
8. James Bland (1852-1894)
9. Altha Ann Bland (1854-1932), who married John Dobbs
10. Peyton Bland, III (1858-1938), who married Alice Gibson
11. Susan Bland (1860-1926, who married Alonzo Lewis
12. Elzy Bland (1863-1938), who married Martha Hare
13. Joshua Bland (1867-1947), who marrie Ellen Walles.
