"The bravest are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before them, glory and danger alike, and yet notwithstanding go out to meet it."

Spc. Clary was only 21 when he was killed along with Staff Sgt. Clinton Wisdom. He was promoted posthumously to the rank of Sergeant.

The men were part of a military convoy. When a suicide truck bomber approached, the men positioned their vehicle between the bomber and the convoy. The bomb exploded and the two Guardsmen were killed. Their sacrifice saved many high ranking VIPs who were in the convoy

Don was a member of the 2nd Battalion, 130th Field Artillery in the Kansas National Guard. The deaths of Don Clary and Clinton Wisdom were the first Kansas National Guard combat deaths since the Vietnam War.

Don was third generation military with both his father and grandfather having served in wars.

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. - John 15:13

*Please note, I am not related to Don Clary. My sister and father are Kansas National Guardsmen with 24 and 30 years of service respectively. I think the world should note the heroism of these brave men. It is one thing to face death, it is quite another to drive out to meet it.*
