He was born May 21, 1925 in Alexander County to the late Jason A. Fox and Bessie Bowman Fox.
He was a lifelong member of Friendship Lutheran Church where he served for many years on church council, was a scout master, usher, served on social ministry and Lutheran Men's Brotherhood.
He retired from the U. S. Post Office in Taylorsville. He was a former member of board of directors of Alexander County Hospital. He served as Corporal in the U.S. Marines during World War II. He was a member of third division 21st Regiment in the U. S. Marines, fought at Iwo Jimo and participated in Occupation of China. He was also in the Marshall Islands and Guam. He was a lifetime member of Catawba Valley Marine Corps League and VFW Post 5466 and DAV Chapter 84. He participated at the Old Soldiers Reunion recently as a survivor of Iwo Jima.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Robert Henderson; a sister, Mabel White; and three brothers, Roscoe Fox, Odell Fox, and Paul Fox.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Lorene Fincannon Fox of the home; a daughter, Judy Henderson of Stony Point; a son, Wendell Fox and his wife, Terri of Cornelius; a sister, Emo Bebber and her husband, Bennie of Taylorsville; two grandchildren, Andrew Fox and his fianc‚, Kelsey Inman of Cornelius and Carey Lynn Balok and her husband, Stephen of Huntersville; one expected great-grandchild in November; and a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 29, at Friendship Lutheran Church by the Revs. Todd Rauscher and Phil Thorsen.
Burial with military honors by VFW Post 10,000 and 5466 will be in the church cemetery.
