A memorial service was held Friday, Dec. 8, at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Wytheville. A graveside service was held at St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery.
He was born Jan. 8, 1921, near Fayetteville, W.Va., a son of the late Estel S. and Ruth B. Kegley. He was a lifelong farmer and member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and its predecessor, St. John Lutheran Church. He was a faithful blood donor.
He was a member of numerous local civic organizations, including the boards of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service and the Wythe County Farm Bureau of which he served as president. He completed two years of study in animal husbandry at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University before returning to run the farm after his father's death.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Georgiana G. Kegley and a brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Betty Kegley of Wytheville.
Survivors include his wife of the home, a daughter and son-in-law, a son and daughter-in-law, a grandson, a brother and sister-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the St. John Lutheran Church Restoration Fund, c/o George T. Johnstone, 2605 N. 4th Street, Wytheville, VA 24382
