Nathan Joseph Mitchell
March 2, 1937 - November 23, 2012

CUMBERLAND, MD--Nathan Joseph Mitchell, of Cumberland, Man of God , passed away into the arms of his Savior on Friday, November 23, 2012 at the Western Maryland Health System. He was the son of the late Thomas M. and Mary S.(Davis) Mitchell. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers Charles and Thomas W. Mitchell. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Nathan was a U.S. Army Veteran. He retired from the U.P.S. having driven the Moorefield WV route for over 20 years. He and Bea always looked forward to spending Winters in Florida golfing. He was a lifetime member of FOE #2883, The Cumberland Outdoor Club, and The Good Fellowship Club. In Florida, they attended Northcliff Baptist Church in Springhill, FL. In Cumberland they attended the First Church of the Nazarene on Oldtown Rd. He is survived by his beloved wife, Beatrice J. Mitchell. They would have celebrated 50 years of marriage on December 8, 2012. Besides his wife, he is survived by one niece, Suzanne Griffin, Rockhill, N.C.; one brother-in-law Barney S. McCarty, Jr. and wife Brenda; three sister-in-laws Viola C. Mummert; Dorothy J. Mercer; and Joyce McCarty, three godsons Craig Mercer; Scott Mercer; and Troy Pollack. Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave, on Sunday from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10am.in the Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Barkley officiating.
Internment will be in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Post 13 Combined Honor Guard. Pall Bearers will be David Lee Frederick, Sr.; Scott Lee Mercer; David Lee Frederick,Jr.; Daryl McCarty; Bernard McCarty,Jr, and Frank Brown. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to the Union Rescue Mission at 16 Queen City Pavement, Cumberland, MD 21502; or the Salvation Army at PO Box 2467 Cumberland, MD 21501
