MUNCIE--Rebecca Lou Schaeffer Tanner, 76, died Sunday in Ball Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Mrs. Tanner was born in Howe and graduated from Lima High School. She received her bachelor of science degree in nursing from Ball State Teachers College (now Ball State University) in 1944. She was a registered nurse at Ball Memorial Hospital during World War II and later for the Ball State University Medical Center for 15 years.
She was a member of the Gamma Gamma Sorority, treasurer of the American Mental Health Association. She volunteered at the Well Baby Clinic and was active in the Lawyers Wives Organization.
Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Tanner Brown (husband: David) and Laura Tanner Wilson (husband: William W.); a son, David M. Tanner (wife: Cheryl); two sisters, Barbara Wunder and Alice Hulce, and seven grandchildren.
Her husband, Walter G. Tanner, a former Muncie attorney and city judge, died in 1980. A sister is also deceased.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Meeks Mortuary. Entombment will be in Elm Ridge Mausoleum. Calling will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday and an hour before services Wednesday at Meeks Mortuary.
