BOYER, Sherman Alfred - Of Flushing, formerly of Flint, age 95, died Saturday, December 26, 1998 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, 1998 at the Plumb-Smith Funeral Home, Rev. Dwight Burton and Rev. Donald Hall officiating. Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery. Mr. Boyer will lie in state at the Plumb-Smith Funeral Home, G-1208 N. Ballenger Hwy., Flint Township, where friends may call 3-9 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Monday. A Masonic memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to McLaren Hospice. Mr. Boyer was born April 30, 1903 in Sydney, Indiana, the son of VanBuren and Mary (Hale) Boyer. He came to Flint in 1924 to work for Chevrolet, from which he retired in 1965 as a senior process engineer. He married Bernice Cutler in 1926. She preceded him in death in 1996. Mr. Boyer was a member of Central United Methodist Church of Flint and Harrisville United Methodist Church. He was a 50 year member of Charles A. Durand Lodge #553, F&AM. He was an active bowler through 1994, winning the Noye Senior Classic High Game in 1986. Surviving are: son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Liz Boyer of Flushing; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Lester Boyer of Warsaw, Indiana; 4 step grandchildren; 5 step great-grandchildren. Mr. Boyer was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice; son, James; daughters-in-law, Mary Boyer and Mildred Amy Boyer; sister, Esther Barnhouse Sorrells.
