HAMPTON - Mr. Wilbert J. Powell, 82, died on Saturday, July 8, 1995, at Sentara Hampton General Hospital. He was a native of Enfield, N.C., and a Peninsula resident since 1942.

He retired as a metal smith from NASA in 1977 after 30 years of service. He was a longtime member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Winnie V. Powell; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Perry Metts of Hampton; sister, Virginia Daniel of Norfolk; and two granddaughters, Leah and Jenna Metts of Hampton.

A funeral service will be conducted 7 p.m. Monday, July 10, 1995, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church by Rev. Michael Renninger. Family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 5:30 p.m. until the time of Mass. Procession will leave Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, to go to Parklawn Memorial Park for a 9:30 a.m. graveside service.
