Lynn was born on August 24, 1927 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of George Alvin and Faith (Steed) Howarth. He married Marjorie Liddle on August 31, 1951 in the Salt Lake Temple.
He earned a Business degree at the University of Utah. For 33 years he worked as a computer programmer and manager at Brigham Young University, and he retained a love for computers throughout his life. He also enjoyed music, singing in his ward choir and learning to play the Lowery Majesty organ in his living room. He instilled a love of reading in his entire family.
Lynn loved his family and doing things with them. For his 80th birthday he proposed a campout at Mirror Lake, which became an annual get-together for his extended family. His quiet sense of humor, patience, forgiveness, and deep love for humanity made him beloved by all who met him.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he faithfully served in many callings throughout his life. His organizational and computer skills served him well as Ward Clerk for Orem Hillcrest 4th Ward for many years.
He is survived by his brother David Ellery (Charlotte) Howarth and sister Pamela Faye Crane; his children Julia (Brook) West, Diane (Stephen) Anderson, Connie (Jake) Forbis, Laura Simmons, Wendy (David) Booker, Susan (Lee) Kunz, Jeffery Lynn (Janice) Howarth, Steven George (Mickie) Howarth, Valerie (Robert) Scarbrough and Holly Howarth; 30 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at the Orem Hillcrest 4th and 5th Ward Chapel, 440 East 800 South, Orem. A visitation will be held Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State Street, Orem, and also Tuesday at the church one hour prior to the services.
