They began housekeeping on his father-in-law's farm where they lived for about 5 years. The they moved back to Broadfording with his parents. Later they bought a tract of land there and built new buildings, located on the corner of the Broadfording Crossroads.
In 1889, they moved back to his father-in-law's farm (Cheese Hollow) which he bought after the death of his wife's parents. In 1907, they improved tthe farm by building a 10 room house near the site of the old house. In 1914, they build 4 more rooms on the house and discontinued farming.

Abraham was very active in church work. In 1895 he and 2 other brethren, with some other help, rebuilt the Stouffers Mennonite Church, of which they and a number of their children were members. He also served as trustee and janitor for a number of years. He helped support the Sunday School, by his presence and teaching. Their deep concern was to see their children live Godly lives so that someday they and those of us who are now part of their family could have a happy reunion in Heaven.
