John Edward Winkler passed away on November 23, 2012. Born on December 29, 1925, in the Heights Clinic in Houston Texas, he graduated from Webster High School in 1943 where he played football and was in the band. John joined the US Navy in 1943 and attended Arkansas A&M aviation cadet school, gunnery school, and served as a gunner on LST's in the Pacific. He also played the baritone in the Navy band. After the Navy, he worked for Southwestern Bell and AT&T for 39 years until his retirement. John was a 50 year Lifetime Endowed Master Mason and member in good standing with the Archives Lodge in Pasadena, an avid golfer and four-time member of the Hole in One Club.
He is preceded in death by his wife Lorraine in 2009, John is survived by sons Billy Winkler and wife Janet, Bob Winkler and wife Danette, and daughter Nancy Hawkins; grandchildren Jo Anna Winkler, Patrick Ankenman, Amy Rodriguez, Holly Winkler, and Wendy Winkler; and great grandchildren Isaac Ankenman, Rossi and Mia Rodriguez, Brooke Barragan, and Isaiah Winkler.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday at 12:30 pm at Forest Park East Cemetery.
