Erlin Ochsendorf, age 85, of Canby, Minnesota passed away on Monday, November 26, 2012 at Sylvan Court Nursing Home in Canby.

Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Nicolai Lutheran Church in Canby, Minnesota with Rev. Jeff Ross officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, November 30 at Birk Funeral Home in Canby with a prayer service at 8 p.m. and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in the Canby City Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Peden-Cole American Legion Post 109 of Gary, SD.

Erlin Herman Ochsendorf was born October 9, 1927 to Herman and Emelie (Jants) Ochsendorf in Hammer Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Nicolai Lutheran Church. He attended rural school District 41. He farmed on the family farm until he entered the United States Army in January 1946 serving as a medic until August 1946. He then returned to the family farm.

On November 12, 1950 he was united in marriage to Angeline Sommerfeld at Omro Lutheran Church. The couple moved to the farm in Oshkosh Township then later to Canby. He worked at the filling station then became the meat manager at Fairway Foods, later known as Red Owl, then Super Valu, and now known as Jim's Market, where he retired. He was a part-time EMT on the ambulance crew and was a reserve police officer on the Canby Police Department; he also provided security at dances in Lake Benton and Gary.

Erlin was a member of Nicolai Lutheran Church and Gary Legion. He enjoyed playing cards, doing puzzles, dancing, watching westerns, visiting with friends, sporting events especially Twins Baseball, hunting and fishing. He will be remembered for always being there to help out with anything for anybody when they needed it. He even gave his brother "Butch" a kidney. But most of all he loved spending quality time with his family and attending his children and grandchildren's sporting events.

Grateful for having shared in Erlin's life: his wife, Angie Ochsendorf of Canby, MN; children, Kevin (Karen) Ochsendorf of Willmar, MN, Bruce (Leanne) Ochsendorf of Willmar, MN, Todd (Maureen) Ochsendorf of Fredericksburg, VA; daughters-in-law, Barb Ochsendorf of Ft Collins, CO and Jeanie Ochsendorf of Watertown, SD; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren: Janelle (Toby) Wishard and their children, Thomas, Lauren, and Sophia; Justin (Val) Ochsendorf and their children, Kaden and Kelton; Chad (Samantha) Ochsendorf and their child, Lileigh; Jerod (Angie) Ochsendorf and their child, Kellen; Jason (Amy) Ochsendorf and their children Alaina and Jaden; Heath Ochsendorf and his children, Tavian and Sophia; Kelsey (Ryan) Engelhardt, Tayler Ochsendorf; siblings, Emily Hansen of Canby, MN and Herman, Jr. "Butch" (Mavis) Ochsendorf of Marshall, MN; sister-in-law, Donna Ochsendorf of Dawson, MN; brother-in-law, Arvin "Bud" Hendrickson of Canby, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Emelie Ochsendorf; two sons, Kerry and Loren Ochsendorf; seven sisters, Lorraine Ochsendorf, Augusta Toben, Tillie Hanson, Clara Hansen, Elsie Hansen,Burnetta Hendrickson, and Luella Gubrud; and three brothers, Walter, Alvin, and LeRoy Ochsendorf.
