Frederick W. Holbrook, 79, of West Street, Edmeston, retired owner of the Wharton Valley Pennysaver, died Sunday, May 1 at Bassett hospital, Cooperstown after an extended illness. He was born May 28, 1897 in the Town of Otsego, a son of Russell and Minnie (Pearsall) Holbrook. He spent his childhood in Harpursville. He married Gladys Edwards on July 18, 1925 at Oxford. He had been employed in the New Berlin area as an auto mechanic and welder. Later he moved to Edmeston where he owned and operated the Wharton Valley Pennysaver for 13 years. He was a member of the First Baptist church, New Berlin. Surviving is his wife. The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin with the Rev. Donald L. Aubrey, pastor of the First Baptist church, New Berlin, officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, New Berlin." ["The Freeman's Journal" (Cooperstown, NY), May 4, 1977, Page 13]
