TRIBUTE TO FORMER PASTOR

Announcement was received in Cessna of the passing on of Rev. Elmer E. Parsons in a Philadelphia hospital on Jan. 21, with burial at Glenside on Jan. 26.

Rev. Parsons had made his home at Glenside, both while serving as minister and after retiring when he served as floorwalker in the Strawbridge and Clothier store there.

He had been a hospital patient for more than six months, having fractured his hip some time previously.

Rev. Parsons leaves a wife, Mrs. Nellie (Whitaker) Parsons, formerly of Pleasantville, whom he married while serving his first charge in the Cessna area. He is also survived by a daughter, Virginia, who is married and lives at home. He was in his 83rd year.

A host of friends will recall to memory his genial personality, serving here as he did in horse and buggy days. It was customary for the pastor to spend the day calling on his parishioners. These calls were usually unannounced, with the result that many a fat hen was run down and hastily gotten ready for the pot without any cooling off period. Meanwhile the master of the house entered into a heated political discussion as well as religious subjects.

The writer of this tribute recalls many an argument over William Jennings Bryan and free silver. Rev. Parsons carrying on the opposing side.

He will live always in our memory and is mourned by a host of friends. - Nettie Anderson.
