Lester R. Deitch, 83, of Newville died Friday, April 9, 2004, in Carlisle Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 1, 1920, in Carlisle, he was a son of the late Howard and Elsie Lear Deitch.

Mr. Deitch was the retired owner of the Carlisle Radiator Shop on Spruce Street, which he operated for 44 years before retiring and selling the business to his son, Allan.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, having been wounded in the Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes Forest.

He was a member of the Carlisle Church of Christ. He loved animals and his grandchildren. He was especially fond of raising animals on his farm, including many varieties of deer.

Mr. Deitch is survived by his wife, Mary M. Young Deitch; a son, Dennis R. Deitch of Carlisle; two sisters, Esther Lebo and Gertrude Foote, both of Carlisle; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Allan Deitch; three brothers, Floyd, Paul and William Deitch; and four sisters, Ella Nailor, Romaine Weary, Marie Wickard and Sara Reese.

Funeral services were held Tuesday in his church with the Rev. Kevin Key officiating. Burial was in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, West Pennsboro Township, with military honors provided by the Cumberland County Honor Guard.
