Theodore A. Wertime, 62, a retired Foreign Service officer, a research associate at the Smithsonian Institution and an author, died of cancer April 8 in a hospital in Chambersburg, PA. A Washington-area resident from 1939 to 1976, he lived in McConnellsburg, PA, at the time of his death. During World War II, Mr. Wertime served in China with the Office of Strategic Services, a predecessor of the Central Intelligence Agency. He did similar work with the State Department from 1945 to 1955 and helped compile a study of North Korea.He then joined the old US Information Agency. Between assignments as a culural officer in Iran and Greece, he edited the Voice of America's "Forum." He was the agency's energy program officer for two years before retireing in 1975.After leaving government, Mr. Wertime joined the Smithsonian's Museum of Natural History as a research associate..... obituary in Friday, April 16, 1982 Washington Post C10
