Mrs. E. B. Botkin
Again this community was inexpressibly shocked when the news was received last Friday that Mrs. E.B. Botkin, who had been taken to the hospital a few days before, was dead. It had been thought that she was getting along fine and would soon be able to be at home with her family. Bit it was ruled otherwise and death came to her relief at the hospital.

Blennie Orchard was the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. W.T. Orchard. She was born in Mitchell Co., Iowa on October 27, 1871. When quite young she came to Kansas with her parents and settled on a homestead north of Cawker City, in Jewell County, Kansas. At the age of seven they moved to the city of Cawker, where she graduated from the High School at that place, and after which she taught several terms of school. She was married to Mr. E.B. Botkin on February 5, 1892. They lived for several years in Gaylord and later removed to Logan, Kansas, where they have been engaged in the restaurant and bakery business up to the present time. To this union was born three children, Harold, Eva and Irma, who together with their father, survive their loving mother and wife. She also leaves a brother, Willie Orchard and a sister, Mrs. Belle Poulton both of Oklahoma, and a host of friends to mourn her untimely death.

Mrs. Botkin had been in poor health for some time and after having been confined to her bed for about two weeks, it was deemed necessary to take her to the hospital at St. Joseph, Missouri, where she was operated on for kidney stones. She stood the operation all right and was seemingly getting along fine, when suddenly on Friday afternoon she took a change for the worse and in but a few short moments she passed to the great beyond. The remains were brought back to Logan Saturday and funeral services held at the home on Sunday, December 12, at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Jewett having charge of the services, after which the body was laid to rest in the new cemetery.
