Anna Christiana Wukasch, youngest daughter of Matthes Wukasch, farmer at Serbin, died at 10:45 p.m. on Friday, 28 September 1866 and was buried the next day at St Paul's Cemetery, Serbin, Texas. Pastor Kilian gave a brief devotion, a blessing at the gravesite, and preached a funeral sermon. She died of fever and cramps after six years, seven months, and two days of life. Hanna is survived by her parents, four brothers, and one sister.

Commentary: This is the second obit that Pastor Kilian read on this Sunday. That is why he says in the beginning, "At the same time" and in the last paragraph, "We remember honorably both decedents."

This is the translated obituary written by Pastor Jan (Johann) Kilian at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin, Texas. Wendish transliterated by Martin Strauch and then translated into German and then translated from German to English by Joel Meador. This information was provided by the Texas Wendish Heritage Museum (

At the same time, we remember with love and honor Anna Christiana, the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Wukasch, who are farmers in Serbin. The Lord took her to Himself this past Friday at 10:45 p.m. Her body was laid to rest yesterday following a devotion and blessings at the graveside, and a funeral sermon.

She was born in Serbin on 26 February 1860. The grieving parents left behind are Matthew Wukasch and Anna née Mrosack from Kommerau. At her baptism she was given both of her Christian names, Anna and Christiana which were entered into the book of life. She grew to the joy of her parents until three days ago when she fell ill with a fever and stomach pains. Moreover, she finally started cramping, which did not slacken until she finally passed away on Friday night at 11p.m. She was six years, seven months and two days old.

May the Lord console the grieving parents; her four brothers, John, George, Matthew, and August; her grieving sister Maria; and other friends near and far.

Thanks to the sponsors for furnishing flowers; to the young ladies for their help and providing adornments for the deceased; to the young men who carried the body to the grave, to both grave diggers, and all of the graveside mourners.

As a last memorial to both decedents we sing the hymn 581, "Your Parents, Good Night."
