Irene R. Griffin, 94, of the Wesson Community, died Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at Hudson Memorial Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.

Born Sept. 20, 1915, in the Scotland Community of Union County, she was the daughter of James Paschal and Myrtle Lou Beaty Richardson. Mrs. Griffin had been a seamstress with Ann Brown Draperies and a sales clerk for Giftland, T.G. & Y. and the El Dorado House before her retirement.

Mimi, as her family knew her, enjoyed her flowers and working in her yard. She was a loving grandmother, displaying pictures of all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren all throughout her home. Irene was a longtime member of Scotland Presbyterian Church and was one of the first female elders of the church.

Preceding her in death, along with her parents, were her husband, W. Ray Griffin, and a sister, Gertrude Griffin.

Survivors include a daughter, Kay G. Watson (Victor) of El Dorado; two sons, James E. Griffin (Sally) of Bossier City, La., and William R. "Bill" Griffin (Bonnie) of Junction City; one sister, Ophelia Kinard of Allen Park, Mich.; four brothers, Pat Richardson (Jean) of Trenton, Mich., Harvey Richardson (Francis) of Corpus Christi, Texas, Gerald Richardson of Phoenix, Ariz., and Harry Richardson (Dorotea) of New Boston, Mich. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Jill Brandao (Mike) of Bossier City, Kelle Kyle (Terry) of Mountain Home, Tag Griffin of Bossier City, Eric Watson (Alison) of Fayetteville, Stephen Griffin (Jeannie) and Chris Griffin (Alice), all of Junction City; and seven great-grandchildren, Brandon Kyle, Lindsey Kyle, Cameron Brandao, Ben Brandao, Cody Griffin, Clint Griffin and Grace Griffin.

Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 13, at Scotland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Sam Shepperson and the Rev. Rob Walker officiating. Interment will follow in Scotland Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.
