Sunday morning at six o'clock Mrs. Cornelius Huffman, long a resident of Bradford and community, passed away at her home here, after an illness of several months duration. While not confined to her bed, all of that time, her condition was such as to need constant care, but during the past few weeks she failed rapidly, and the end came peacefully Sunday morning. Just with the awakening life of a new day she went to sleep like a tired child. Surely a most fitting time for the spirit to take its flight Heavenward.
Sarah A. Conover was born near New Germantown, New Jersey, on November 17, 1830. When a young woman she came to Henry, III., and there was married to Cornelius Huffman, on September 17, 1856. To this union were born ten- children, five of whom have preceded the father and mother to the other world, Mr. Huffman passing away over three years ago. After their marriage, Mr. and- Mrs. Huffman lived the greater part of their lives in Saratoga township, where the old Huffman homestead is still well remembered. The hospitality of their home was known far and wide, and thestranger, even though a beggar, never failed to find shelter. By hard labor and thrift Mr. and Mrs. Huffman accumulated wealth, and in November, 1899, retired from the farm and moved to Bradford. Since then her home has been in this place. -
Mr. and Mrs. Huffman helped to form the Methodist church at Whitefield, and kept their membership in that church until they moved to this place, when it was transferred here. Her Christian life was most beautiful from its very beginning to its close, and through all the vicissitudes and sorrows that she met in her way her faith in her Divine Master never wavered. Her life was completed, if work all done and well done constitutes completion. She had filled the various relations of life as daughter, mother, wife, friend and neighbor, and filled them well. Who can-do more?
Those left to mourn her death are one son, D. B. Huffman, of Fremont, Neb.; Mrs.Lizzie Nichols, Stark, IlL; Mrs. Anna Barton, Colony, Kansas; Mrs. Mary Ketchum, of this place, and Mrs. Ida Short of Ft. Worth, Texas. Besides her children she leaves thirteen grandchildren, three great -grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Bunn, of Wabasha, Minn., and one brother, Oliver Conover of Pleasanton, Kansas, besides a host of friends and neighbors.
The funeral was held this morning at the M. E. church, Rev. Thos. G. Cocks in charge, assisted by Rev. F. E. Roe, a former pastor. Burial was in the Bradford cemetery, beside the remains of her husband.
