Interment was in Grace Cemetery with the US flag presented by John Dove, Commander of Strand-Saboe VFW Post 5247 of Dawson. Visitation was on Sunday, October 17, from 2:30-3:30 PM, with Pastor Keith Long leading a prayer service at 3PM at the Johnson Memorial Home in Dawson. Victor Evenson was born on March 13, 1928, in Riverside Township, rural Dawson, to John and Anna (Jordahl) Evenson. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dawson and attended country school at District 26. Victor served in the Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict. After his military service, he returned to Dawson to care for his mother and brother after the death of his dad. He farmed in rural Dawson for over 50 years. He was a great caretaker, always there to lend a hand to family and friends. Victor lived a simple life: living in a house where the only running water was the water he ran from the pump to the house. The outhouse was a novelty to family when they went to visit, but to Victor, it was what he used every day. His nieces and nephews remember building snow forts and playing fox and goose in the snow. He loved the outdoors and doing crossword puzzles and word search. One of the favorite games he liked to play was the board game, Parcheesi. Watch out if he and his partner were sitting north and south. He was sure to win if that was the case. In recent years he had a healthy appetite for potato klub and meat loaf commercials. In July of 2005, after a fall at the farm and his health starting to fail, Victor moved into the Johnson Memorial Home. He died on Wednesday afternoon, October 13, 2010, at the Johnson Memorial Hospital, at the age of 82. He is survived by nieces and nephews and one sister-in-law, Clarice (Darrold) Boettcher of Montevideo. Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers: Noble, Bernard, Melvin, Helmer, Obert and Arne Evenson; and sisters: Ruth Breberg and Alma Lee.
