Former Hebron resident Martha S. (Riggert) Schardt 95, of Richland Hills, Texas, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at Manor Care Nursing Home in Richland Hills.

Services are 1 p.m. Monday at St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church in Byron. Burial will be in St. Peters Lutheran Cemetery at Byron. There will be no visitation or viewing. Ahrendts Funeral Home of Deshler is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Schardt was born Sept. 27 1908, to Frederick and Mary (Adam) Riggert in Marshall County, Kan. She grew up in Gage County, Neb., and attended Hebron Academy in Hebron. On Nov. 15, 1935, she married Arthur E. Schardt in Beatrice. Her husband was a Lutheran pastor. They served churches in Longview, Texas; Loveland, Colo.; Wichita, Kan.; Newman Grove and Mt. Vernon, S.D. They were mission volunteers in Papua, New Guinea. Her husband died Jan. 29,1991.

She volunteered at Angelo Community Hospital in San Angelo, Texas, and was named Volunteer of the Year in 1993.

Survivors are one son, Ronald of Dubuque, Iowa; two daughters, Beth A. Rossing of Grapevine, Texas, and Karen E. Carey of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two sisters, Alice Riggert of Beatrice and Clara Stevens on Holdrege; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Memorials have been established.
