He was in the Civil Service for many years as a teacher on the Najavo, Apache, and Pima Indian Reservations and in the U.S. Weather Bureau. He was a prolific writer of short stories and regular contributor to Arizona Highways, Fur, Fish, and Game, Sports and Field and other magazines. He also wrote the historical novel "Fifty Years in a Peace Officer Saddle", and had one of his stories dramatized on the radio program "Death Valley Days".
