Actress. She used the stage name 'Vera Allen' in most all her roles over the years. Allen was active in stage, films and TV shows. She was in numerous Broadway productions from the 1920s through the 1940s. Allen was awarded a special Tony award in 1948 for her work with the American Theater Wing, for which she would later serve as president. Allen's film work included "Doctor Bull" in 1933 and "That Night!" in 1957. Among Allen's TV roles were those in daytime dramas "The O'Neills" (as 'Peggy'), "From These Roots" (as 'Kass'), "Another World" (as 'Grandma Matthews'; a member of the show's original cast in 1964), and "Search for Tomorrow" (as 'Ida'). Allen was married to Malcolm Schloss for 60 years, ending in 1981 with his death. She passed away in a Croton-on-Hudson retirement center of heart failure. Allen left one son and 2 grandchildren. She was 89 years old.
