Barney Blanco, age 86, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Friday, November 23, 2012 at Ransom Memorial Hospital, Ottawa. He was born on Saturday, June 5, 1926 in Quenemo, Kansas, the son of Salvador and Guadalupe (Sambrno) Blanco.

Barney has been a resident of Ottawa since the late 1930's, moving from Quenemo.

Barney attended schools in Quenemo and Ottawa.

He was an operator of heavy road equipment in the Quenemo area prior to enlisting in the Army in September 1944. He served his country during World War II in the Pacific Theater, Korea and Vietnam. His tours of duty included Germany, Bolivia, and various posts in the United States. He retired as a 1SG in April 1973.

He was a former member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5901 of Ottawa, Kansas.

Many of Barney's favorite activities included coaching little league as well as being an avid fan of the Denver Bronco's and watching CNN around the clock. He enjoyed auctions, yard sales, camping, fishing, league bowling and going to the casino. He also enjoyed using his metal detector finding many treasures.

On, November 7, 1947 Barney was united in marriage with Norma Evelyn Conner at Junction City, Kansas. She preceded him in death on March 1, 2001.

He is survived by his: Daughter- Cynthia Smith and her husband Richard of Greeley, Colorado. Son - Gary Blanco and his companion Colleen Adams of Ottawa Son - Tracy Blanco of Ottawa Four Grandchildren – Joshua Blanco and his wife Laurie, Justin Blanco and his fiancé Jessica Wallis, Kasey Martin and her husband John, and Cheyenne Blanco Ten Great-Grandchildren – Katelyn, Payton, Hannah, Maximus, Kendall, Dawson, Brendon, and Konnur Blanco, Kaylee and Karlee Martin

He is preceded in death by his: Wife - Norma Blanco Parents - Salvador and Guadalupe (Sambrno) Blanco Two Sisters - Romona Cannova and Juanita Nunez Four Brothers - Lorenzo, Poncino, Jesse, and Manuel Blanco, Sr. Granddaughter - Candice Blanco Grandson - Jance Blanco Great Grandson - Vince Rameriz

VISITATION: Cremation is planned. The family will meet with friends at Dengel & Son Mortuary from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, November 30, 2012,

Private inurnment will take place at Chippewa Indian Cemetery with military honors by Ft. Riley Honor Guard.
