Gertrude dropped out of school after 9th grade to work in the textile mills in Lawrence, helping to provide for her widowed mother and her 3 siblings during the Depression years. After her marriage, she was a stay-at-home Mom until 1950 when she went to work to help provide for her family of 3 (Therese, Irene and Andre). She worked as a department store clerk and a bank teller until her retirement in 1980. She loved crafts and crocheting, crossword puzzles and TV game shows. She delighted in her 2 grandchildren, Cathy and Paula.
Gertrude died of a massive stroke on 04 May 1999 while visiting her daughter Irene in New Jersey.
