John Oien, Red Wing Resident 10 Years, Dies at Rochester
John Oien, 55, a resident of Red Wing for the past 10 years, passed away at the Rochester hospital last night about 7:00 o'clock, following a long illness with complications. He had been receiving treatment at that institution for the past four months.
He was born at Trondhjem, Norway, on October 25, 1883, and came to this country at the age of 18 years, settling at Eau Claire, Wis. He was engaged in the plumbing business there for many years. He was employed by the Northern States Power company and was also a member of the WPA crew while he made his home in this city.
Surviving are two sons, Joe Oien, Eau Claire, and Elmer Oien, LaCrosse; a daughter, Dorothy Oien, Eau Claire; two sisters and a brother in Norway and six grandchildren. A son, Arthur, preceded him in death in February [sic, March] 1935.
The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Edstrom chapel here. The Rev. Melford S. Knutson will officiate. Friends may call at the chapel tonight from 7:00 to 9:00 o'clock and tomorrow from 10:00 a.m. to the time of the service.
