W. Joe Bylinski was born in 1863 in Punia, Russian Poland, where he lived with his people on a farm for twenty-five years. This was a great wheat county and the home farm was mostly devoted to grain.

Mr. Bylinski landed at New York in 1889 and his first job was on a farm in Connecticut where he worked for eleven months. He then went to Buffalo and worked in a foundry and machine shop until 1891 when he came to Franklinville. He spent several years working on the largest farms south of this village, then for Ed. Napier in the stone quarry. This was followed by nine years in the canning factory. In 1905 he rented the billiard parlor of Geo. Hatfield over the Salisbury hardware, which later he bought; he also bought the Millard Reynolds billiard parlor on Elm Street. While running them he began peddling ice in a small way, and the business developed until now he makes regular deliveries and sells over 200 tons of ice during the summer.

In 1912 he rented the billiard parlor at the Casino, and has since maintained several tables, these together with confections, etc., he tends evenings, and looks after his ice business during the day. Mr. Bylinski speaks both Polish and Russian as well as English.
