Joseph Henry Preston, aged 80 years, passed away suddenly Friday morning, Mr. Preston was a Civil War Veteran, having enlisted with the 88th Regiment Infantry, Pennsylvania Volunteers. Mr. Preston was beloved by all who knew him and was an especial friend to children. Mr. Preston had been incapacitated for years owing to his wounds received in the Battle of Bull Run. Being of retiring disposition few knew of a number of wonderful experiences he had. Mr. Preston was an artist of some repute having at one time a collection of a hundred pictures all painted late in life. He was a student of all languages and could play equally well the piano and cello. The community suffers a great loss at his demise. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Esther Davis with whom he lived and three sons, Frank, Wilbur and Vance Preston.
Mr. Preston was buried this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home of his daughter. Rev. George S. Miller, pastor of Taylor Memorial Baptist Church and Rev. James Rogers, former pastor of the Congregational M.E. Church officiated. The floral offerings were beautiful and numerous. Interment at Eglington Cemetery.
