William (also referred to as Willett) was born & raised in Ephratah, New York, was the 3rd of 8 children of Frederick & Gertrude Duesler. He had siblings David, Nancy, Levi, John, Julia, Catherine & James.


William was 18 when he married Elizabeth Colson on Oct. 21, 1852 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Stone Arabia and had a son Alonzo. After Elizabeth's death he married Caroline Bernhard on May 18, 1863 in Vienna and they had four children.


Vienna is just north of Rome. He was listed in the 1877 Rome City Directory as a broom maker on Mohawk St. The family moved to Cleveland about Sept. 1879 and first appeared in the City Directory in 1880 and lived in various homes in the Woodland area (1885-1895 at 95 Grand Ave.) until they bought a house at 501 E. 109th St. in 1912. He also worked as a tanner and then a foreman in a rubber factory.


After 52 years of marriage, Caroline died on April 6, 1915 at age 71. William died at age of 80 on April 20, 1915 (two weeks after Caroline) from heart failure.
