The parents of Edna Nelson were Elisha Brasher and Ella (Hubbard) Nelson. Elisha B. Nelson was born in Alabama in Dec 1850. Mary Ella Hubbard was born in Calhoun Co., Alabama in Dec 1852. They were married in 1881 Alabama and Elisha was a brick manufacturer.

The 1900 US Census of Columbiana, Shelby Co., AL enumerated the household of 49 Y/O Elisha Brasher Nelson, a brick manufacturer, and his 45 Y/O wife, Mary Ella (Hubbard) Nelson. Also living in the household were their children: 18 Y/O Edna Nelson, a student; 7 Y/O Wayne Nelson and 5 Y/O Olin Nelson.

Edna married William Alexander Abercrombie in 1905 Alabama.

The 1910 US Census of Ward 4, Birmingham, Jefferson Co., AL enumerated the household of 59 Y/O Elisha Brasher Nelson, a coal mine manager, and his 57 Y/O wife, Mary Ella (Hubbard) Nelson. Residing in the household were their children: 17 Y/O Wayne B. Nelson; 16 Y/O Olin F. Nelson and their 27 Y/O married daughter, Edna (Nelson) Abercrombie and her 28 Y/O husband, William Alexander Abercrombie, a book keeper for a steel and iron company. Their child, Ralph Nelson Abercrombie, born on 19 Apr 1909, was also living in the household.

The 1920 US Census of Birmingham, Jefferson Co., AL enumerated the household of 39 Y/O William Alexander Abercrombie, the auditor of "Stockham Pipe and Fittings" manufacturing company (a powerhouse company for many decades), and his 37 Y/O wife, Edna (Nelson) Abercrombie. Also living in the household was their 10 Y/O son, Ralph Nelson Abercrombie.

The 1930 US Census of Birmingham, Jefferson Co., AL enumerated the household of 49 Y/O William Alexander Abercrombie, the treasurer of "Stockham Pipe and Fittings" manufacturing company, and his 47 Y/O wife, Edna (Nelson) Abercrombie. Also living in the household was their 21 Y/O son, Ralph Nelson Abercrombie, and 78 Y/O Mary Ella (Hubbard) Nelson, the widowed mother of Edna (Nelson) Abercrombie.

The 1940 US Census of Birmingham, Jefferson Co., AL enumerated the household of 49 [sic] Y/O William Alexander Abercrombie, the treasurer of "Stockham Pipe and Fittings" manufacturing company, and his 47 [sic] Y/O wife, Edna (Nelson) Abercrombie. Both Edna and William are recorded as finishing 4 years of college.

The 1950 Birmingham, Alabama City Directory records William Alexander and Edna (Nelson) Abercrombie living at 2525 Lanark Rd. Alexander must have been retired as no occupation was listed.

Mrs. Abercrombie, Church Worker, Dies at Home

Mrs. W. A. Abercrombie of 2525 Lanark Rd., active church worker, died yesterday at her residence. She was born in Anniston (AL) and lived in Birmingham for the past 48 years. Mrs. Abercrombie was an active member on the building committee of the Sixth Avenue Presbyterian Church in 1924. She also was a past president and secretary-treasurer of the church Women's Auxiliary and active in Sunday School. She was a member of the Kenilworth Literary Club. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at Johns-Ridout's Church Chapel, Dr. Dale LeCount officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood (Cemetery). Survivors include the husband, W. A. Abercrombie; a son, R. Nelson Abercrombie; two brothers Wayne B. Nelson, Birmingham, and Olin F. Nelson, Orlando, Fla.; two grandchildren, Janelle Abercrombie, and R. Nelson Abercrombie, Jr., both of Birmingham.
