Michigan Governor. He graduated from the University of Michigan, with a law degree in 1893 and established a legal practice in Detroit, Michigan. He served as the Attorney General of Michigan, (1916-20) and was elected as a Republican the 30th governor of Michigan, serving (1921-27). During his two terms, the state's highway system was advanced, prison reform measures were sanctioned, an automobile title system was created and state government was restructured and consolidated. After leaving office, he practiced law, was chairman of the Michigan Civil Service Commission, (1941-44) and was a member of the American Bar Association, until his death at age 79.
