Carol Childers passed away peacefully February 26, surrounded by her loving daughters, Catherine, Teresa, and Suzy. Carol was born April 11, 1924 in Tarpon Springs, FL. She graduated from St. Petersburg High School in 1942. She met the love of her life, Charles, a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Corps and was married in 1943. Carol worked for the Defense Department during World War II. Charles and Carol made Jacksonville their home in 1949 and became entrepreneurs of several family owned businesses. Carol's primary career was that of homemaker and mother. She will be most remembered by her daughters as a loving, devoted, and supportive mother. Carol instilled in her children strong core values and that through hard work and integrity they could aspire to become anything they desired. She loved everything about life: traveling, entertaining, reading, and the arts. However, her greatest pleasure came from spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved them with all of her heart. Carol was a dedicated Christian and active member of Southside Baptist Church where she proudly served and formed many friendships. She also served her community in many social capacities. Carol was president of the Lakewood Women's Club, active in Wolfson Children's Hospital auxiliary, a member of the Jacksonville Symphony Guild and the Republican Women's Club. Carol's sharp wit, gracious attitude, and luminous smile will be missed by all who loved her. Carol is predeceased by her husband, Charles Childers, son, Bruce Childers, her daughter-in-law, Deborah Childers and an infant grandson, Tyler Braddy. Remaining to love and remember her forever are her three daughters, Catherine, Teresa, and Suzy, two devoted son-in-laws, Darrell Braddy and David Wendel, whom she loved as sons, and six grandchildren: Chris Childers, Matthew Childers, Ashley Price (John), Katie Braddy, Justin Wendel, and Chad Wendel. Her family wishes to extend their appreciation to Carol's care takers at Taylor Manor. They especially would like to thank Sherry Johnson for taking care of "Momma" in her most special way. The family visitation will be held on Monday, March 1, 2010 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Hardage- Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Avenue. A celebration of Carol's life will be on Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at 11:30 a.m. at Southside Baptist Church in San Marco. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association or to Southside Baptist Church, 1435 Atlantic Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
