POLLY BELCHER CARTER
Mrs. Polly (Belcher) Carter, 88, of Wise, went to be with her Lord, Friday (April 16, 2010) from the Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn., surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 22, 1921.
Polly was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She attended Pyle's Memorial Freewill Baptist Church in Pound.
Polly was preceded in death by her husband, Barney B. Carter, on Nov. 26, 1993; her parents, Robert "Bob" Belcher and Mary Bentley Belcher; her sisters, Eliza Mullins, Jane Vanover, and Lourena Vanover; and her brothers Alec Belcher and Martin Belcher.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Russell Ratliff of Wise and Gladys and Tommy Hunsaker of Norton; her sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Joan Carter of Pound Danny and Barbara Carter of Abingdon, Jeffrey and Teresa Carter of Pound; her son, Jimmy Carter of Pound; her two sisters, Rachel Balthis of Pound and Julia Balthis of Pound; her brother, Luther Belcher and Pound; ten grandchildren; nine greatgrandchildren; one greatgrandchild; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a host of friends and loved ones to mourn her passing and preserve her memory.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 18, in Sadie Baker Memorial Chapel at Baker Funeral Home in Pound with Rev. Randy Carter officiating.
Graveside services followed at the Riverview Cemetery in East Stone Gap. Grandsons served as pallbearers. The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at Baker Funeral Home evening service held at 7 p.m. with Rev. Danny Mullins officiating.
