James S. Beasley, 84, Pioneer Resident Of Texas County, Dies

James Sargent Beasley, 84, pioneer resident of Texas County dies Thursday at 1 p.m. in a local hospital following a short illness.

Funeral services are announced for Sunday afternoon at 2:30 in the Nazarene Church with the pastor, Rev. Eugene W. Scroggins, officiating.

Mr. Beasley, pioneer rancher, was well known over the entire Oklahoma and Texas Panhandles. He came to this area in 1885 and homesteaded on a ranch on the Beaver river sixteen miles east of Guymon, and has continued to make his home there until the time of his death.

Prominent in Many Projects
"Jim" Beasley had been prominent in all projects for the betterment of the Panhandle country and has been an important figure in planning and making the Pioneer Day festivities in Guymon a success. Jim had entries in the parade numerous times and had been eligible for the "Old Timers" group since before the first celebration. He had also been active in the Old Settlers organization and was one of the leaders in organizing the group who hold an all day meeting and picnic every year on Labor Day.

Born In Missouri
He was the son of James and Mary Beasley and was born in Savanah, Mo. on October 27, 1866. He is survived by his wife, Anna E. and three children, W. B. "Boss" who lives in Amarillo, Prentice S. of Texhoma, and Mrs. Lydia Mayer of Hardesty. One daughter, Olive, died several years ago.

Interment will be made in the family mausoleum in Elmhurst cemetery under the direction of the Dawson Funeral Home of Texhoma.
